I just bought a used custom 160 gallon tall tank and it has two bulkheads in the bottom, one that is 1 inch and the other is 1/2 inch. The are located one on each side about half way between front and back. The tank also has Euro bracing. I am planing on using 2 canisters but looking for the bestway to connect to the tank. Any ideas would be great.

It's drilled for a sump.

I really don't want to run a sump on the tank. Would it be bad to put a strainer on one of the bulkheads and connect this to the canister in and run and connect the output to the other bulkhead with a pip going up to the top of the tank with a sprayer on top?

That's actually what I had thought if you wanted to use a canister - I don't know why you couldn't, but others could confirm.

From what you described of the hole placement it could have been for closed loop circulation? Especially if it was a saltwater tank.
