Can i use flexable tubing from the bottom of the overflows?or do i need to use sch 40?do the overflows need to be teed together before going to the sump?

what kind of overflow?.. is it the built in ones or the HOB overflow?.... either way.. you dont need to t them together (does create minimal flow restriction) and theres no reason you cant go with flexible tubing... but if you give me your set up specs i can help you better :]
220 gallon tank 7'x24"x24".Over flow boxes are in the back.1 over flow 1 return hole in each box.Overflows are 1" and the returns are 3/4".

As long as you use hose that is thick enough to prevent kinks (Lowes and HD sell thin stuff that kinks like crazy), then it will flow better than being hard plumbed. Every time the water goes through a 90 degree turn it has to slow down (just putting it into perspective...the speed actually does not speed up and slow down, it just slows down throughout for each restriction encountered).
