HELLO ALL! I am rebuilding my 280 gallon aquarium which is turning out to be a real pain :S but fun :) at some moments. I have built a custom 2x6 stand which i still haven't decided on what finish i am going with but the question is should i screw a sheet of plywood on top the stand before i place the aquarium? what about a sheet of foam? the glass is 18mm thick 72x30x30 IMG_0413.JPGIMG_0412.JPGIMG_0370.JPG

If the tank is glass with a trim I would not. If acrylic then I would.

the trim is coming off it really is doing anything other than protecting the bottom and top edges, it does nothing for structure support

im not 100% that the trim wasnt part of the structural integrity. actually i belive it plays quite a large part.

Yes it keeps it from bowing out. U need that unless u make ur own cross bracing at the top.

I put the foil backed insulation foam under all my tanks (and the back and sides). It seems to help with stand imperfections, and holding temperature in glass tanks.

this was not a one piece trim it was just 4 cuts of flimsy trim to support lids. The glass is extra thick for support reasons. I have to started to separate the panels for my rebuild IMG_0437[1].JPGIMG_0434[1].JPG IMG_0432[1].JPG
