anybody know if you can use say a pond or pool liner for sealing the plywood.
i just recently moved my pool in my yard to a better location and instead of reusing the liner in it even though it was only a year old i just bought a new one.
lucky for me i saved the old one. now would this work as a good liner for my new tank project? any feed back would be great :WHOA: :WHOA:

I think for the inside of the tank and epoxy sealant would look cleaner and probably be more reliable. It would probably make the glass easier to seal also.

:iagree: Epoxy an fiberglass are the best ways to seel a plywood tank. Plus Using fiberglass adds alotve strength to the walls an joints to. The just use Silicone to seal the glass.

what about skinning the entire plywood surface with glass or plexi glass this could be a very thin product as it would not support any weight. I was thinking maybe using contact cement to firmly adhere it to the plywood and then its just a matter of using silicone to seal all the seams as if it were an all glass tank

It would probably still be cheaper/easier/more reliable to use resin

the silicone normally used for sealing your glass viewing pane doesnt adhere very well to the pond liner. at least thats the issue i had when i tried it.

i agree with joeytoe too, the fiberglass will help keep the epoxy resin from hairline cracks when you transport or move your tank as epoxy can be very brittle when cured.

what about glueing the pool liner to the tank say with contact cement that way it would not move
I do know that sillicone bonds dang good to pool liners. i know this because when i replaced the liner in my pool last year aka the same liner i am planning on using i had to seal the skimmer to the wall so it would not leak and it was a pain in the but to remove this fall when i moved the pool

Someone has used a pool liner with success. I believe it was a member from reefcentral. I can't remember what post but somewhere in their DIY forum.

Meh if i were you i would use a 2 part apoxy resin. make sure its made out of 100%solids tho. Iv herd of fiberglass resin warping a few years down the road.

what about the epoxy made for garage floors would it be safe to use? Anybody ever tried to use it before with success
