I'm moving out of the planning stage of my plywood tank and into the build, what I am still thinking about is the wood sealent. What should I use to keep water from soaking into the wood. I was thinking Drylok but would like some input.

hey tell me how if goes with the build im getting serious about building a ply tank..oh yea and how big is it gonna be?

I used 2 part epoxy called sweetwater from aquatic eco systems inc on my plywood tank and it works great. The work time once mixed was perfect for 1st time users like myself. The hazmat shipping is about $20. I've seen lots of people that have used drylock but I'm still not a big fan of it. Silicone sticks very well to the Sweetwater as well. My tanks been up since last December and I've had no problems with it.

I wonder about Drylok. It seems to be one of the few paint applications left that still uses high lead content. Apparently it helps in water proofing. I have used it in above water applications, but I wouldn't trust it for holding static water. I doubt its durability and its lead content will probably leach into the water.

I had great luck with Pond Armor though.

spiff, help me out. I just went over the MSDS sheets for these http://www.ugl.com/drylokMasonry/masonryWaterproofer/powdered.php and didn't see a lead warning for their products. Could you point this out for me please?

My main concern is they don't spec it out for wood applications.

Thanks,

Dr Joe

I have also had good luck with Pond Armor/Pond Shield. However I am currently experimenting with MAS epoxies. So far I'm pleased with it.
