im thinking of building a huge tank for the garage, i have been doing some talking and have some worries about it.. i live in utah in the winter is gets well below freezing and sometimes belo 0 degrees... im planning on putting atleast a foot thick of insulatoin around all the plywood but here is what i have been warned, if the tank is 86 degrees inside and on the outside is say 6 degrees will that have any effects on the glass? obviously the glass wont have any insulation on it.. some ppl have said the seal on the glass will pop or break, others have said as long as the water temp doesnt fluxuate threwout the day then it wont matter how cold it is on the outside. there fore insulation will be the key. im looking for any thoughts or opions and if you do have a guess please explain your reasoning giving me thoughts, thanks

I have my plywood tank in the garage but I haven't deal with winter yet so I don't know the effect yet. My garage is not insulate and I only have it air tight, but I have normal house hold insulation and so far its keeping the inside temp well in 30C with no heater.

It doesn't quite get that cold up here in Oregon but my 125 survived a winter no problem. I have the heater where the water from the powerhead and HOB filter push the heat into the tank. The bigger the tank the harder it'll be for rapid temp swings because the water will help hold temp. You could also stick an old P4 or Athlon PC out there and running F@H to warm things up :-)
