Its all about the window size I just want to check my understanding of the math. so lets say I am making a tank that is going to be 48" x 48" x 24" L x W x H with one front window 48"x 24" in size the glass would need to be .5 inch thick correct ?

Assuming that the above is correct lets move on to the second hypothetical. I am building a tank 100 x 100 x 24 L x W x H but I am only going to put a piece of glass in it that is 48 x 24 . so I should still only need the .5 glass correct ?

Ok last hypothetical I am building a tank of astronomical proportions but it is only going to be 24 inches high I can still use this same peace of glass 48 x 24 in my new million gallon tank correct ?

Thanks for your time.

You are correct. Hydro static pressure and fluid dynamics are weird.

The highth is the most important thing. Just check out the thickness calculators on the DIY sticky and you'll be headed in right direction.

You could make a tank 1000" x 1000" x 24" and you'd be fine with 1/2" glass for the face because the glass is strong for that 24" of height.

Or you could go 100" x 10,000" x 24 and all that water could be held back by 1/2" glass face.

Difficult to wrap your mind around sometimes but its how it is.
