Alright everybody, I have read all of these stories about people building huge beautiful tanks out of plywood [which I will someday do] and I'm still unsure about how they keep the water in. I know the sides are plywood, but how do you go about making it a tank, and not a wooden box? What materials are used inside the wood box? It's the first question I need answered on my way to building my dream tank.

Thanks guys!

the fiberglass is a cloth thats layed down inside and on the walls of the tank and the resin is applied to it when it dries it essentially become one piece. you put several coats of the epoxy resin on it and that makes it waterproof. i kno someone else will probable give a better explanation but thats basically how its done

So the epoxy is the stuff that hardens around the fiberglass sheet that essentially makes a water tight seal? It becomes pretty much a tub?

theres hundreds of ways, search around the forums everyones got a different way.

read as many builds as you can on the fourm. 99% of your questions will be answered

on my 900 i used epoxy
on some people that use peridry or drylock
some use fiberglass
some put thin sheets of glass in a plywoodshell and silcone it
some use a pondliner
etc etc etc

There is a sticky at the top of this section that has several plywood builds in it that have been done using several different methods. I suggest you go there and start reading through the threads and find a method that works for you and your skill set. There is a link to my build that I completed last year is below in my signature, it's a 315G plywood tank with ann external frame and liquid rubber used to seal it. If you have any questions feel free to send me a PM. Good luck!
