Has anybody ever put 2 separate pieces of glass on the front of a plywood tank to get extra length. Combining 2 72" pieces to make a 12' tank or 3 72" pieces to make an 18' tank. There would be a piece of plywood where the two ends meet, in the middle, to silicone to. The idea is to make a 144"x12"x12" tank without buying a 144"x12" piece of glass or the possiblity to go longer if able to. Any insight? Thanks in advance?

What thickness of glass are thinking? I don't see how that could not be done, its basically 3 viewing panels in the front. I would use a lot of extra bracing especially on the top thats a lot of weight

Yeah you can do that, you just want to do what Niners said. extra bracing and you're going to want to make sure there's a strong post between the sheets of glass. check out this build
though you may want to watch it on mute

I was thinking 3/8" or 1/2" glass panels. I think if I brace it good enough I would be okay. I was gonna pour the epoxy so it would be really strong, like 3/16" or 1/4" thick.

oh my bad, I thought the original post was saying 12'! big big big difference! completely different than the room-sized tank I was thinking of. yeah you should be good.

Keep in mind glass in 130 inch length is fairly readily available. I've been looking into long tank options myself. A lot of glass is shipped to dealers in that length then cut down, if your local dealer only carries 8 foot length in stock they likely can get 130 from their supplier.

I'm trying to avoid a piece of wood in the middle of the view myself. I've been thinking about a long pane in the center then shorter panes to the outside of the front. That'd make for 2 plywood vertical breaks in the front rather than one, but I'm thinking it might look better.

I was thinking by getting 2 different pieces that it wouldn't stress the glass as much since there will be a front brace in the middle. But if possible nothing is stopping me from doing 2 96" glass fronts to make a 16' tank.
