I am planning a plywood tank build. My tank size is 96L x 30W x 36 tall 450 gallons. My question is about my glass. In my area the thickest I can go is 1/2 inch any thicker and it has to be custom made $$$$. Would I be able to extend the reach of 1/2inch glass by adding support beams to the front glass. By that I mean dividing the window in to 3 openings each 30x36. If not I'm going to make the area below the glass deeper so I can still make my tank 3 ft tall.

If you really want the 36" hight then I think this would be the safest.

I am confused.
The thickness of glass needed is determined by the depth of water.ie. the PSI exerted on the glass increases with the depth.
surely 26 inch deep water would exert the same amount of pressure on the glass regardless of how deep the actual glass is ? so it could still break..... no ?

The pressure put on the glass is based on the depth of the glass so if the glass is place at somany inches above the botton the pressure is only as much as the glass height. and the deeper pressure would be put on to thick frame that I am building below to make up for the water level I want.

I agree, the deepest I would go with 1/2" glass would be about 30".

I second this one.
