Has anyone successfully built a plywood tank?
I want to build a custom tank in my new house and wanted to put the tank in the wall. Looking at around 1000 gal. Any tips, pics or info would be helpful. Thanks!

I want to do one of these myself. I'm used to the reef guys doing big tanks, but nobody really bothers to build their own, as the tank itself is chump change when you add up the total cost. I recently came over here because I'm getting the freshwater bug again. Maybe it's time for a big plywood tank and some Amazonian fish?

the tanks i bulit were 5 sided... for a 1000 gal i would recommend external ribs like 2x6 on edge... and probaly one or two cross braces across the top. depends on whats hidden from view.

the front face was cut out like a picture frame and the cell cast mounted with silicone to the inside...water pressure helps the seal.

the entire interior was fiberglassed using non toxic west system expoxy ( call the factory for the reciepe) and cloth... then coated with colored resin until smooth.

have fun !!

im in process of building mine

I've built a 750Gal tank. Absolutely love it. I fibreglassed the inside to waterproof it. If I was to do it again the only thing I would change is the height. At 4 feet I needed 21mm (7/8inch) thick glass which wasn't cheap. It seems the price of glass is exponential to the thickness.
