so just like a lot of ppl on here im planning on building a plywood tank...

i wanted to use the glass out of an old tempered 55 gallon. i was curious if this would be two big for the glass from a 55....

the insides dimensions would be 4'4"L X 3'W X 1'11 1/2"H
i think it would be like 190 gallons right?

i was going to frame around the glass with about 2inches all the way around. so my window would be like 3'8" x 17 unless i could get away with 1 in instead of 2.

i was going to use 3/4 in ply which is probably over kill on this size. but i would like some opinions.

Should be doable. I built a plywood 6x2x2 using the front and both side pieces of a 55G and didn't notice any problems w/mine:)

^^ that is what it is about... How well are you gonna sleep at night ;)

I am using 3/4 on my 250 plywood.

Goog luck

23/32 is 3/4" It's marketed that way since it dries approximately 1/32" from it's original 3/4" thickness. 24/32" reduced is 3/4". (3*8=24 4*8=32) :D 3/4" isn't overkill for that size tank. 1/2" wouldn't be enough.

Austinchap, you might want to check out www.garf.org and look at their basic plywood tank construction. Yours is very similar to their design and it will help in avoiding any design issues.

I would like to do a 6ft long by 3foot deep by 2 foot high but i dont trust that I would be able to seal it well enough.
