I have an aquarium I wanna tear apart to build an taller aquarium. Is it possible to place the front and the back glass in the front of a plywood. Than silicone the between the glass so water won't leak. Making 2 split glass into a bigger taller one.

Welcome aboard

I personally never heard of anyone trying that with 2 sheets of glass. Tbh don't think that will work.

How thick is the glass? And how deep do you want to go? The deeper the tank the thicker the glass needs to be. It has to hold all that downward water weight and pressure without shattering. Id say no the silicone will probably fail and if not the glass will. Most tanks are made of the thinnest glass that is safe for that size tank and now you want to double up on the depth. Look at the glass thickness calculators to get an idea on what I'm saying.
Here is a random one.

:lol3: This .
I was just typing out the same response.
The problem is as you add height the pressure at the lower levels inside the tank go up so the glass thickness needs to go up as well.
It may be possible to go side to side and make a longer tank, but I doubt that you will be able to go deeper.

Glass is 30 inches high and 48 length. So with both glass top and bottom would be 60 inches. The glass is 1/2 thick.

That's a 5' high viewing panel, and split at that. Sounds very precarious to me in half inch glass. I'd go back to the drawing board if I was you.

Just curious, what are you planning on stocking in this deep tank that requires such a depth?
