personaly i like glass. but im a bit worreid with using a 8' long sheet and having it break when menovering it to be sealed in. what do you guys recoend? the thign thaty worries me about acrylic is that i always hear it scratches easy but would be easier to work with. any thoughts on this would be appriciated.

I'm researching the same thing. What I have found so far is about 8 to 1 Acrylic over glass usage for larger DIY builds. I'm going with 800 gal and up, home made tanks that are basically built on site. So it seems most of the DIYers choose acrylic for the larger builds. I'm not sure what the motivation is: cost, weight, strength, clarity. What ever their motivation is I figure these guys have a proven system so why reinvent the wheel? I'm going with acrylic.

I believe the biggest factor in choosing Acrylic is weight. if you have fish that can scratch it many have gone with glass. so it has more to do with what you have in mind for inhabitants and help.

acrylic over glass for weight and thickness. I will personally be doing acrylic since I can drill into that and bolt it to the tank.

hmm interesting, do you think large fish may scratch it? if so is there anyway was aroudn with scratchign and acrylic? does it acualy scratch that often i have no experiance with acrylic.
