Plywood Tanks

I'm sure this is a very noobish question but looking at photos of everyone's (awesome) plywood tanks got me wondering...How does the tank not just give way because of the natural expansion and contraction of the wood, particularly given that it's holding so much water? Thanks for the input.

As I understand, wood expands and contracts across the width not the length.

In each layer of the Plywood the grain is laid at 90 degrees to the former, so the strenth in the lenght holds the expansion of the width.
