4 weeks ago when he was about 25-30cm he ate my 14cm RTG aro.. i found his tummy was so big and the aro dissapeared. the next day when i did WC i found many aro scales under the decor, which confirmed my believe the gar was the culprit.. obviously because the other fishes i had was flowerhorn and oscars which wouldnt be able to swallow an aro.

1 week ago when he was about 35cm, he killed my 14cm kamfa flowerhorn. i cought him red handed with the kamfa in his mouth, he didnt manage to swallow it, but it was too late for the kamfa.

all these happened when they were in 50 gal tank..

just 2 days ago i got my 285gal tank, and also another aro, 35cm crossback aro, at first he stalked the aro, but now it seems he doesnt mind it.

is he a alligator or spotted/florida gar?.
were all the killings due to a cramped tank? or was it just because the gar just being a gar?

this is the pic the day my 14cm aro disappeared IMG-20170123-WA0001.jpg

No. They get huge and need a pond.

Plus the old tankmates were a little aggressive too. At least to me. Kind of like mixing a dovii with a Common wolf fish. Not gonna end well.

Some fish have a temperament that will not allow tankmates. Gotta get tankmates that are equal or bigger than it and to match the growth rate of a gator gar. They will tolerate tankmates like most gars. Nothing it can't eat.

The "red elephant in the room" is what are ur future plans with it? It will get big and outgrow a lot tankmates and may become food.

The point is if they need to be kept in large ponds and aquariums.

yeah i figured i think i will return the gar for the sake of my other fishes.. not only because of its history of killings but also it will outgrow my tank.. and it will be harder for me to give a way a fish that i been keepin for a long time..

i thought it was a spotted/florida gar, but i was mistaken...

:(
