my husband found a 2nd deal on tank for me.
He thought it was standard 6'x24"x24" 180G, the dimensions I prefer.
Turns out it is 6'L x20"w x30"h. that's tall for my arm reach inside, and 4" less wide for cichlids.
But it is also 1/2" thick acrylic, never been used. & access openings are larger than standard.
has built in center overflow box, I've never had one-> can some heaters & filter input tubes be hid in there? or do those work only for sumps?

Will a custom made cabinet be needed for those dimens? I'm not rolling in $$.
but I can get the tank for $1500, which is cheaper than usual new 1/2" acrylic.

Does 4inches less width make much difference to fish stocking types? it seems like most don't use the height as much as width & length.... but this is a nice tank & I do have a used 6x24x24 I'll be setting up too.

Help me decide!?
THANKS.

That seems like an awful lot of money for a 150g tank in my opinion. But to answer your question. You can plug the holes in the bottom of the overflow. Place the intake tubes and heaters in the overflow. But make sure that the water level does not drop below overflow slots. If you don't ever plan on running a sump with it, I would drill a few big holes thru the lower part of the overflow so it can pull water thru there too and not just the top

Wider is better than taller. Also, 1/2in is kinda thin for 30in tall tank

I'll have spent about 1000.00 by the time I'm done building my 430 gal. Three months to complete though. Well it is my first build. Just a thought.

For a six foot tank, 20 inch and 24 in does not make that much of a difference because in a six foot tank, the size of the fish is not going to be too big anyway. Tall tanks are prettier but a hassle to clean...then again, I have a 30 inch tall tank but I manage to set it up such that for 11 month now, I hadn't needed to vacuum the bottom.

Guys, thanks for helping me think balanced. I got crazy excited when hubby found this all on his own. I was FLYING off on:"TWO 180 G's!?! YES YES YES, I can have one CA and one SA!"...well, you can all imagine. LOL. plus thinking "Go for it while it's HIS idea ;-)"
but, it's alot of $$, NOT the footprint I like. so, with agony racking thru my entire self, I relayed all the reasons for "No, not this one..."
and I told him ya'all's MenFKers comments! HAhahahahaha

I would pass and look for a better deal. Found my 8x30"x18"h 225 for 50$ so better deals are out there on possilbly bigger tanks (not like that where I live. but true, it's no bargain)

Footprint is everything if you're keeping cichlids (or most large fish for that matter), I'm really not a fan of tanks that are taller than they are wide. The extra width gives it a more three dimensional look IMO, I hate seeing fish just swim back and forward...same here :-(

If this was a huge bargain, I'd go for it. but googling prices killed that delusion. Eh, maybe a Christmas/birthday tank instead, & more in our price range. I don't know how he intended to pay for this.

On the "Up" side, gotta admit my husband is The BEST man ever!

Thanks Guys! I appreciate you.

Awww, your conclusion is adorable.

Moot point but yeah, definitely go with the other tank. 4'' makes a huge difference.

Also if you got the overflows, why not build a sump? They don't have to be expensive and they're soooooo great.

well, I won't be having that overflow... but I'm a total noob to Lg tanks, have NO comprende` of building sumps, scared to death of an error causing a house flood (others in past, due to old plumbing). what I really want next is a bullet-proof water change system that flows outside house.
but I'd love getting sumps WITH technical guidance.
