just on this malawi safari trip, there is a guy offering them clarias ca for the barby! wtf? and where would he get them, in africa? of all places!

Er...um, you do realize that clarias cats originate from Africa, right? The 'Florida' walking cat is the african clarias that's an invasive species to the US.
