I've noticed something as I observed most of my male CA cichlids (Salvinis, JDs)(SA Festae) from the side. All the fish that I know are male exhibit the pointed papilla. It's small but visibly showing on their underside. All the fish that I know are females do not exhibit this. Even fish that are small (my 3 inch male Salvini and one of my 2 inch Festae) clearly shows their papilla. I was wondering if this is a reliable form of sexing fish?

I'd say possibility if you can see clearly if you notice in breeding process it will be sticking out

and tube on female dropping down.

female tube is also blunt on the end.but both M and F don't always show it,it could be just when they are ready to breed.
