duanes duanes i know you have more experience than most with polleni. Knowing some fish try to eat things way too big, what would be the smallest size tank mate you would comfortably try with polleni?
I've never kept them with barbs, only other cichlids.
Anything that fits in their gaping mouth, and is slow enough, will be toast.
My favorite combinations, were with other Madagscan species, either Paretroplus (like maculatus or menerambo, or with Ptychochromis
(like P sp, tarantsy)
When Photobucket comes back up, I'll post some pics

I have never really used other dither types with Paratilapia, as noted, they would usually eat anything thin enough to swallow, and I'm anal about being geographically correct (so Madagascar Rainbows would be geographically correct, but eventually eaten)
I prefer to use other Madagascan cichlids with them.

In the photos above, there are Paretroplus maculatus with the Paratilapia.
