How many days, weeks or months could a Poly fast?

Yes I've read the stickies, the author said 2months for an old ropefish, they're part of the family but how about for Senegals, Delhezis, Ornates, such as those?

I'm asking the question cause I need to pellet train a juvi, 2-3" And I don't want a experimented starve to death poly.

Anyone has an actual experience?

Thank you in advance.

My 14" endli has gone 4 months without eating then one day just started again. Since yours is so small, I wouldn't starve him for more than a day then try pellets. If it still doesn't take them, stick to what it likes and wait till its bigger like around 6-7".

You can fast them for a pretty long time compared to other fish. I think though that it really depends on size. And unless you absolutely have to switch it to pellets then for a 2-3"er i would fast it 2-3 days then put some in the tank, if it doesn't eat them then the put small amounts of pellets in every other day. What are you feeding it now?

Baby knife livebearers, or guppies, even tried shrimp and silversides, didn't work, they still love live food, and what's more they're ornates, dunno why but this 2 juvi really likes to tear apart their food, as in messy eaters, they love to eat the abdominal part of the fish they ate, and would eventually leave it as it nasty the water. They're nocturnal and won't feed unless it's nighttime so no can't do on observing them, have to do the lights off thing cause there are other fish near within them and they won't catch the fish.

If you can find an LFS around you that supplies them my polys will always eat Beefheart cubes. IMO that would be a good start to weening them off live foods cause my polys can't resist beefheart

Beefheart would be a good recipe, ok I'm fine by that. But I really avoid using mammalian fatty deposits as they're juvis, if they're into growth spurt stage I really do feed BeefHeart to aid the growth which would be 4-6".
And I have no acces to bloodworms, tubifex are only live feed that can be fed to juvi, BUT THEY'RE WAY TOO RISKY. Had fed my senegal bichir and it suffered ich, my Oscar internal parasites, since then I learned my lesson. Never ever ever never ever I would get that.

Yeah i'd only use the beefheart to ween them off live foods then when they're accepting more then just live foods try and add more, but yeah i always keep beefheart some where in my fridge, because my guys love it as treats. Good Luck :)

I tried introducing different food/pellets to my ornates and they seem to ignore and just smell them. They didn't eat for months and I have to give up and put them back to salmon pieces. They are eating better than me with the price of salmon.
