How many of you guys use this in your filters, ive been running it for about a month now in my emperor 400. I havent seen alot of people using or suggesting it and was wondering how often i should be cleaning it. I know BB will live in the fiber and i def dont wanna be cleaning too too often, right now i rinse usually once a week. Anyone had good bad experiences withpolfil?

I am also new to using the poly fill. Cant beat the price. I replace mine every 2 weeks or so. I dont worry to much about losing any BB because i use the poly for mechanical filtration and run bio in my canister. Seems to be working fine so far.

Ive been using it for years in my fresh AC's and my saltwater sump. Just be sure to change it out often, like atleast weekly if not more. Its cheap and easy to use. I think its greta. YUou can buy the same thing in a pet store for $6 or $7 bucks. Go to a hobby store and buy a bag twice the size for ATLEAST half the price. Just make sure it's poly and chemical-free.

While poly will hold some bb it's primary purpose should be for mech filtration and the bio should be taken care of by a different media. The whole point of using cheap poly as media is so you can throw it away regularly and replace it with fresh.

I sshould clarify i am using bio filtration as well. I havent tossed any of it yet....it seems to rinse really well when i take it out run under water and squeeze it clean. Before using poly fil i wouldnt have relised so much got through the first filter pads....i am hosing these out weekly and they always seem to need it. I think it was like 3$ for a big bag at walmart. Is it not good to keep and reuse? Should i be tossing it out every week or so even if it comes clean?

I use it to polish up the water or if I do anything in my planted tank that disturbs the bed ( clouds of debris..) its cheap and easy... and my moms a quilter/sewer... so I can usually hijack what I need from her stash of stuff... Ive even found some nice organic cotton stuff that works great. pricey.. but stilll cheaper then the lfs prices and chem free.
