I was at a LFS today and they had a tank full of mixed Polypterus, or at least I think they were mixed. They were all different patterns and colors, vastly different from each other (solid browns, mottled browns, albinos, solid silver/greys, mottled silver/greys, there were a few striped ones and there was one Ornate).

Anyway, they were all $20/ea so I picked out a silver/grey one that's heavily mottled on the head and has spots on it's back half. Any idea what species it is?

Let me know if I need to take additional shots. And thanks!

That's a delhezi. Nice pick up! Most captive delhezi breed from asian comes out stripe less now.

Oh? How come, are they breeding them to be stripeless?

And does that mean this one is going to get stripes? Because I really kind of like the spots more (well, without seeing stripes on it I don't really know. But I think I'd like the spots more).

What you see now is what you will see in the future, except it will develope some little greenish yellow shades around the pattern. Reason why they don't have pattern is becuase due to mass breeding with hormones injection. This happens to endlicheri too. They developed usual patterns. Some captive breed endli patterns don't even look saddled anymore.

Here's mine came from Indonesia. I also notice that they grow slower than wild caught.
