so i mentioned the last post that my two polypterus jumped out of the tank for about 2 hrs, but survived. My new question is, is it normal for one or both of them to get a slimy/fuzzy looking coat over it when it rehydrated? its still being normal but that coat isnt appearing on the other one so im concerned if this is a bad reaction or a normal reaction. maybe it was out longer than the other? or gender plays a role? is this an infection or sickness warning sign?any info would be appreciated.

I can’t say for sure what it is, but I had a dojo loach jump out and he also got a fuzzy coat for about a week.

Yep. I think thats from shedding their dried up slime coat and growing a new one? Mine had that and I medicated the tank just in case.
I am seriously thankful there is a website I can ask these questions esp since living in japan makes communicating with lfs a nightmare. I mean, the place i go to mainly specializes in ancient and rxotic fish but still, it took 20 minutes to communicate that i needed sinking meaty pellets, not floating ones...

Could have a fungal infection also.
It is possible but it seems to have dissolved today. the new issue is, that that same one had attempted to eat a kuhli loach and with a ton of thrashing injured its mouth. the loaches were in this tank along with them because this was my quarantine tank and the loaches needed to be housed somewhere with soft substrate, which this tank has sand. The loach escaped as well meaning he missed out on a meal. i added some easier meals in there but they dont seem interested and would rather try living food. so i added some medaka or (rice fish) to the tank for them to eat because its not a long eel that will thrash so heavily. im worried that its injured jaw will further cause it to be uninterested in eating and i havent seen this one in particular eat since they escaped and i returned them. i know in the wild meals are irregular but im still worried hes going to starve himself to death now from all of this stress.
