Hey Hey,
I was wondering what species seem to do best when mixed together. I currently have a near 9 in Ornate that I would love to give some poly company. I was thinking Delhezi?

What is everyone else's thoughts and/or experience?

Thanks!

Same size polys = usually a safe bet.

You need to be more strict with smaller polypterus. I'd say if they are 6" or under, allow no more than 1"-2" in size difference - less being the best.

Most polys will do good together if they are not small enough to be eaten.

It all depends on your polys and feeding, at one point I had 38 polys in 240 gallon.

Ranging from a few 19-20" endlies, 19" teugelsi, all the way to 6-7" delhezies and palmas species.

Give them plenty of spaces and hiding spot. Again, it all depends on the poly itself and how they behave against smaller species.

Similar sized polys are generally fine to keep together.

I would not risk a delhezi with an ornate longterm though. I think my ornate might eat her former delhezi tankmate just because she could. When I had them toegether she was no more than 3" longer than my smaller polys.

I used to give my fish feeders, and the princess ate a 9" chub when she was only 13" long. I would never consider it safe to keep smaller polys with her ever again.
