Why do we not see more diy tanks being built with high density polyethylene more?
I can understand the price dealing in preformed tanks and containers, but are there reasons for not using polyethylene sheets as primary material for diy aquariums?
Does silicone not stick to the material?
With a 48"x48" 1/2" thick sheet going for just above $100, is this not strong enough, better yet, cheap enough?
With $400-500, one could build a really nice tank, w/ viewing window, thats over 200G+, tools not included.
So am I giving this material too much credit and ignoring certain concerns? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Shame on you, you didn't do your search homework huh :D

1 or 2 members are doing this.

Loctite Plastix Bonder says it will work & http://www.stealth316.com/2-dp8005.htm is a good read, or it has to be welded (you need a dry air source and warping problems), or fused together.

Food for thought.

those links are priceless. that scotchweld looks clutch. hopefully i can put some cash aside and start a polyethylene tank.
