so i bought som polyfill batting at petsmart cut it to fit and layd it in the top if my ac110 and put some rocks on top of it i rinsed it first and it blew strings of it through the water and got into the impellars and stuff anyone ever have this happen to them what did i do wrong

You just need something on top of it to keep it in place. I have put it under the biomedia and also used a piece of plastic screen.

ahhh good idea i like the plastic screen idea i have it stacked bio sponge then pollyfill and how often do you replace it just wen its clogged

I never replace it. Just rinse and reuse.

- but I use Poly from a pillow stuffing. I'm not certain about the stuff you have. But I would think you can rinse it out too.

Quilt batting falls apart less than Pillow fill. It's the same material just 'weaved' differently...

Two options I've used... felt fabric makes a good fine media. I've placed felt fabric over the batting and tucked the ends in around it...

I've made a little frame out of egg crate to hold the batting down. This won't work perfectly with pillow stuffing but does with quilt batting...

Using both methods together also works...

i have allways felt that poly fill doesn't work that well unless it is compacted some what.

Thats why i never use any in my ac110.

Also becareful with the felt. If the felt clogs and the water has no way around the media then the filter will over flow onto your floors.

I've never let my AC110 get so clogged that it is overflowing, but on my AC50, if the media gets too clogged it starts overflowing at the front of the filter, around where the intake tube is. The 110 appears to be pretty much the same design, it should begin overflowing out the front, into the tank, before it could overflow at the back.

Feel free to test it. I will give you a guarantee that the gap by the tube can't handle 500gph.

I wrapped my sponge in a 5 micron sheet. Installed in the filter and 3 days later the floor was soaked. I am sure that if I did not catch it when I did that the filter would have continued to overflow until the water level dropped below the intake.

The ac line of filters do not offer the (fail safe) safety feature that all other HOB filters have.

I caused the overflow no doubt about it. I was just trying to implement the little tricks that work so well for other filters.

Lesson learned don't tinker with the ac110. And never trust one on hardwood floors again.
