GREECE ATHENS
hi everyone i have a 53g tank<40*16*20> with strong filtration fine sand lots of floating plants and many roots

for the moment the only resident is a 5'' polypterus senegalus and i am looking for possible tankmates for my gallons..

i have ctenopoma acutirostre in my mind as it is nice fish and comes from afrika like my senegal...
any other suggestions?could abf be fine with Ctenopoma acutirostre ?or they are fin nippers?
ideas please!

p.s you are doing great job guys hello to everyone from a new guy!

Hi! welcome what about butterflyfish for the upper levels and maybe kribense african cichilids.

you would be fine with ctenepoma, though the tank may appear a bit dull in terms of activity, whereas the ctenopmas would just be in the plants and the senegalus would just be mellowin out on the ground most of the time. If you are trying to do an African region tank, you could probly get away with some smaller cichlids as mentioned, as polys arent the quickest hunters. Polypterus make great tankmates for many different similar sized fish as they are frequently ignored by other aggressive fish.

what if i add some gouramis like Trichogaster leeri or Macropodus opercularis?they are not from afrika but nevermind..

do u think they will have problems from my senegal?or he will just stay at his corner waiting for food as always?:)

pearl gouramis would be OK, not sure about paradisefish because of their finnage (polys will occasionally nip if annoyed). You can normally find pearls at a pretty decent size, the bigger the better. I've heard tales of overly aggressive senegal bichirs but in my experience as long as the tankmates cant be eaten they are fine. Any decent size mid-top-dweller would be fine, whereas the only time the senegalus is up there is to grab a gulp of oxygen.

Get an snakeskin because of the size and gracefully swimming motions not to mention they are pretty active.

Welcome!

I would try some Congo tetras. A very active schooling fish that would add color and movement to your tank.
