Hi people,
I have never kept these monsters before and am planning to add one in my 50g tank with a juvenile texas cichlid and fishes mentioned on my signature. So what can be the best and the easiest polypterus for my tank that can be kept for atleast 1-2 years, after which I'll get a bigger home for them. The commonly available here are senegals(albino) and ornates.

Polypterus Senegalus, normally get 10" but some reach 12".

Cant be, I have seen 1 about 14" long, they are known to grow about 18", isnt it?

But what is easier to keep and less aggressive? ornate or senegal? And which are ore friendly?

go with a senegal and yes using scientific measuring (SL) which does not take into account finnage which is variable they tend to max out between 10-12'' in home aquaria.the 18'' was wild caught and theres not telling what its age was.much
like any animal there are exceptions but they are rare the standard height for
an average adult male is roughly 5'6''-5'7''however we all know some are shorter some taller-Anne

Anyways P.senegalus are great first bichirs they tend to be the most active during the day or when lights are on and can become very friendly towards its owner-Anne

Thanks Anne ans everyone else!
Will definitely go for a regular senegal now as we dont get Delhezis around, else they were my top choice.

I also have a small chocolate pleco, is it a good tankmate for bichir?
