Just purchased a 180gal tank that came with crushed coral substrait. I plan to put Polypterus in it but I am concerned that the coral will create too much P H in the tank for that type of fish. Any advice at all would be great. I have raised these fish in the past but never with crushed coral.
THANKS!!!!!

If your water is already naturally hard, there's not much difference. I've kept bichirs with crushed corals with no issues even though my water is naturally hard.

In currently have my poly's with crush coral and have no problem. They come from lakes in africa where the water i generally hard. I use the coral as a buffer for the ph in my tank and have had no problem with my poly's

just measure the pH and see what it is, as long as it isn't overly high, the bichirs will be fine.

on the other hand, i'd be worried about the sharp pieces in the crushed coral substrate.

I have not had any problems with my as i did check the coral before and removed any sharp pieces.
