most of the websites ive seen say that the maximum size of this fish is 11" but ive seen pictures of some 24" and read on some other websites of people having large ones in the 20" plus sizes... do they get that large or is this a case of people having mistaken identity??? im planning on getting one but only if itll get fairly large, i dont want anymore smaller bichir species, any help would be awesome, thanks guys

as far as i know, there is no way a healthy ansorgii can max out at 11"

The biggest Ansorgii, I've seen/heard is 33" Ansorgii. If you want a big Ansorgii, just order a big one(20"+), will be pricey. Ansorgiis take forever to grow, I would say it would take over 10 years to grow a small Ansorgii to 20"(Might not even hit 20" in tank unless very large tank and alot of patience). :) If you want just order bigger(20"+) Endlicheri Endlicheri or Bichir Lapradeis, much cheaper than big(20"+) Ansorgii.
Here is the Ansorgii photo thread.

Hao hit the nail on the head.

Just to add, if the Ansorgii is very very small then it will most likely be CB.

Only Kamihata industries have managed to breed TRUE Ansorgii. They are a little pricey, and should come with a certificate.

There are also cheap Ansorgii x Endlicheri cross breeds that are flooding the market all over the world right now, so be careful what you purchase.

thanks for that, i have heard about the cross breeds and was really skeptical because i couldnt really tell the difference when i compared the two, and i do have the oppertunity to get the kamihata one but i might go for the royal tiger band instead i think, even though its smaller i really like the patterns of it, its one of those where i wouldnt mind giving an arm and a leg for hahahaha, thanks for your help guys
