So I've gotten myself a Polypterus Ansorgii a few weeks ago...been feeding it mp ,bloodworm, massivore and chicken meat. More mp and massivore then anything else
And well he turned red :

you can tell how red he became as compared to the lap behind

Looks like slime coat problems.

It's a Ansorgii x Edlicheri hybrid by the way.
So being a CB fish plus mixed genes, often problems occur.

Looks like true ansorgii to me. BTW what makes it look red is that juvenile bichirs that are bleach out or stress tend to look like that. I know that some ansorgii gets reddish tan but not really red like an actual red color. That is just a stressed out fish.

add a little aquarium salt and try not to stress it. it should go away in 10 days or less.

no stress then...I won't add salt though, as i've got two plecos in there and i don't know if they are allergic to salt

plecos are not alergic to salt provided it isnt overdosed

ok thanks.

On a side note, someone bit the whole tail off down to the end. i suspect it was my ornate as it was the largest in the tank and the most emo of em. So I took the ornate out....

bad idea to mix pleco with bichirs

So that's why the tail looks funny.

By the way, cute little guy you have. The salt should do wonders in healing him. And if the red is natural, then congratulations on having a true Red Bichir. :D
