Is $60 a good/fair/decent price for a 4" Polypterus delhezi?

I was at one of my favorite LFS over the weekend, and they had gotten a pair of them in. I'm not sure about which species are which (though, I believe this is one of the smaller species, no?) and which cost more/less. But I'm used to seeing Polys at the other LFS for $15-30 (now granted these cute lil' things were the best patterned ones I've seen ever).

But in any event, I really liked these guys and I really liked that a store was selling them this small (I usually see them full grown already). If anyone thinks that's a good price for that species, let me know. I'd like to call back and have the owner put one of them on hold for me, while I get a new tank up and cycling.

Thanks!

For $60, you can get one much bigger than that with great pattern, by ordering through rehobothaquatics. But you have to add on shipping.

If you've never seen one with such nice patterns, but you have seen them cheaper, than it's your call whether or not it's worth it.

Nah, I meant I really liked that it was so small. I like to grow things out.

And for cheaper and less patterned, I meant other species, sorry that was really unclear. I think I've been looking at senegalus at the other LFS. But they don't label they're tanks, they just write "dinosaur eel", "bichir", etc.

But what's shipping usually on fish? If rehobothaquatics has nice things, it may be worth a look. ^_^

Shipping fish is quite expensive, so you may want to wait and buy several fish you want at the same time to save on shipping.

I think $30-$40 would be a better price, but if you're willing to pay it if you like them that much then go for it;)

Is that a general price for that species? If it is, I can probably haggle with the owner... he's pretty flexible unless it's a rare species he's managed to get in, then it's a stiff price.

I guess it really depends where you're from. I got my Delz at 5"-5.5" for $30 and $35. For a 6" one I wouldn't expect that big of a price difference unless it's a slow growing fish, which they really aren't. See if you can haggle it down to $45-$50, that seems fair.

I agree with Ben, at least shoot for $40, which is still $10 more than the most expensive juvie del I have found.

Where I live I've seen that size for $29 - $39 but not great patterns.. try to talk him down but I'd still get it.. :)
