Misidentification of Polypterus in the hobby is very common, so I am not surprised it was sold to you as "Polypterus bichir".
Based off the photo, it looks to be a quite good looking wild Polypterus endlicherii. Polypterus endlicherii have vertical markings, while Polypterus bichirs have more lateral markings.
I am not sure on the locality though.Hao can help you with that.

Yeah... I thought about it too, but like you I'm not the expert here lolIt looks almost like a congicus to me with the banding on the upper half and spots, and the thinner head shape, but I'm no expert
Thanks! Didn't see any other member from Brazil or Portugal here, but if they can read me: manda um abraço aí meu amigo!cool to have another portugese student here
LikeNice fish. Doesn't quite look like an endlicheri. More photos would be nice.

He's darkened up really well!! What a gorgeous bichir! He no longer looks like a congicus, he looks more like an sp. Dabola now, based on pics of Dabolas I've seen!! But I'm no expert, the only correct infor I can give is that is a beautiful bichir!!Hey guys,
