Howdy, folks.

At a recent visit to my LFS I was introduced to the idea of "breeding" Marbled Crayfish as feeders for my Polys. It really looks like a fantastic way to introduce nutritious, inexpensive, easy to breed (they reproduce pathogenically(cloning)) feeders into their diet.

I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with the Marbled Crayfish as a feeder for their polys. If so what, if any, issues did you encounter.

If not Marbled Crayfish, what live feeders (That you bred on your own. I'm not all that interested in feeders from LFS.) have you used.

I'm also running a guppy tank but I'm not as enthusiastic about feeding my Polys guppies. However, I figure gut loaded guppies are better than ghost shrimp from a LFS.

Thanks in advance!

Marbled crayfish are great feeders, and very easy to breed.
I've been breeding them and feeding them to all of my fish for a good 5 years. They are very healthy for your fish. I gut load mine with spinach and carrots.
To avoid the crays injuring your fish, I recommend feeding crayfish no longer than the width of the polys head. If you are feeding them larger crays, you may want to remove the claws.

Though I have never tried feeding mine with a crayfish I would strongly recommend not to do so, it may damage your polys intestine with those hard and pointy scales. Lets see what others have to say though.

Crustaceans are part of their natural diet. No worries.

Interesting thought on the crayfish. For live feeders, I go to a nearby river/creek to catch guppies and mosquito fish.Leave them to poop out what they've been feeding on in the wild in a qt and gut load later. A bit risky if the water they're in is not so clean.
