I've heard that Polypterus can live out of water, has anyone ever seen one out of water? If anyone has pics or links of one out of water please post.

Nope...they have the ability to breathe air and survive a bit longer than most fish out of water, but they aren't able to stay out too long.

They can live a little longer than other fish out of water, but they can't live out of water permanently. Not long, actually.

I don't mean permanately out of water. I would just like to see one say crawling on land or something.

I saw a congicus on my floor the other day, so I swooped him up, put him back in the quarantine bin.

Why do you want to see one out of water, when they look so much better out of water?

Somewhere in the 'show off your polypterus' thread (towards the end) Andri posted some pics of him holding his ornates out of water.

This is what happen when your bichir is out of the water. A dead bichir!:D

Here are some of my bichirs out of water photos. All are dead when I came home as they are all dried up after many hours out of water.

I came home from work the other day to find my teugelsi wasn't in the new little grow out tank I bought for him and my beut. I found it behind the stand. I picked it up it looked lifeless but not dried out. Didn't move in my hands but I dropped it back in the tank anyways. It started moving around right away. The next day it was acting normal. Moral of the story cover all tank holes!!! Also if you find you bichir on the floor put it back into the water because hey you never know.

Wow, I'm glad you rescued him on time, but that just shows what an amazing fish this is. Any other fish wouldn't be alive today.
