Well i want to get a polypterus congicusand i already have a senegalus. My question could they go together? I mean i know the congicus geta a wopping 38-39 inches and the senegalus only gets about 12 inches. Also how fast do these congicus grow? How long would you say they could stay in a 75 gallon?

Thanks a ton,
Ian

If you start it from juv, it'll be mostly safe. As for the growth rate, it depends on the way you feed it. For example, if you have a 5" congicus, and feed it well. You will experience a growth rate of 1" per week during first few weeks, and then 1" per month in the following few months. That means it can easily grow over 12" in a year. That's the time you need to move it to a bigger tank, if you want to grow it to the max size.

^ yeah... you don't want to stunt it...

Yes, it can work and remeber you never permanently stunt growth due to tank size, but tank polution (The hormones produced by cramped enviorments greatly reduces growth and can lead to Uber slow growth, with this in mind plus poor water quality due to the fish producing more NH4 and NO2/NO3 than the tank can handle this creates a shorter lifespan...therefore the fish Dies before its growth is noticed....Example if I put a baby Great White Shark in a tank only large to hold it and keep it alive say 8X4X4 it'd break the tank or die due to horrible stress before it could reach its 12' mark at the end of its 2year birthday, the fish was never stunted because it only lived 1/10th of its lifespan....Bichirs are no Different.....WOW big rant, as soon as the Congo reaches 14"-16" (that is if your Senegal actually gets to 12") it would be fine.....Health=Big WC+Massivore

Awsome, i was just curious and have never heard any info on diffrent species of bichirrs that have drastic size diffrences online. Just some more knowledge for the brain. Thanks guys.

WOW where did you go online PETCO/Petsmart!!! ROFL Congo Bichir can reach up to 41":WHOA: in the wild versus the sad Short-Bodied Albino Senegals that reach 4"-6"
