Now I know how to sex male and female polys. By the anal fin and what not, but I read on here that you can’t tell the sex if they are to young or small in size. So my question is, at what size does the male and female parts start to show? And is mine to young or small to tell?

Welcome aboard

Around 5 inches for Senegalus. Are those feeder Goldfish? If so make sure you quarantine and treat them prior if you didn't know this. Most of the members including myself feed Tilapia and Pellets way much safer than live feeders.

My poly doesn’t have a big enough mouth to these size goldfish. He has definitely eaten minnows before but I try not to feed him fish. I feed him things like beef heart, sinking pellets, myis shrimp, and cyclops if he can find it.

As far as the goldfish those are for my blind gar

beefheart is another thing not to good for them

That’s what I was told to feed him at the pet store. What can I feed him cuz I don’t like feeding him goldfish.

Hikari carnivore pellets and tilapia. I buy the tilapia at walmart cut it up and throw it in a food processor to make it easier to pull pieces off. Tilapia is miracle grow for bichirs

I can feed them any kind of livebearer?

I breed mollies, guppies, mosquito fish and endlers to go in my bichir tank. The main reason I prefer livebearers is if they get to big to eat then they breed and pop out small enough fish. However saying this by no means should live fish be their staple. However personally I think having them swimming around at all times helps diffuse aggression because the bichirs have something to eat if they really get hungry however with steady feeding most bichirs I've had just ignore them instead going for food that doesn't run. This really helps when adding new bichirs. Also doing it this way helps you gut load your feeders
