I have a Senegal bichir and from what I've heard and seen, they do not grow much larger that 12-14". Mine is 6 months old and now is around 9.5-10". Do they slow down on growing at this point? Or do they become larger than what people say? He is in a 120 gallon tank.

Average size is about 8-10 inches. So if urs is already that big then it's more than 6 months old. Urs maybe the lucky one with better genetics or you have a wild caught possibly. Their size will slow down once they hit 6inches or so and once again u got a nice Senegalus.

Thank you. I got him may of this year and he was 3" and like I said he is around 9.5 now. Hoping he grows like my dinosaur bichir, he was 17" in a year and a half and I ended up selling my tank

That's some growth for sure! But u had a dinosaur bichir was 17inches? Maybe another type of bichir u mean?

Here he is. He was 3" when I got him as well and this was 4 months later. 8". I had him for about another year and when I sold him he was 16-17"

Are u saying 17inches or 17cm?

Inches. Between him and my Oscar they would eat 50 rosy reds and 4 beefheart a day didn't feed on weekends. Sometimes mice or frogs or worms

Wow....incredible to hear of! Maybe from lake Turkana I'm guessing.
