I have a 125 US gal tank, it's been running for a year and a couple months, i have 2 Delhezis that are 7' long, 1 Senegal thats about 8', i have a retro that is about 5' and a ornate that is 4''. The delhezi's and sengal were in there since the tank was set up, however i recently added the ornate, no aggression or cannibalism from mine, however recently i added a retro which is being followed by the ornate, and best i can describe it is being "snapped" at by the ornate, is it a decent idea to re-home the ornate? Or hope that this gets better? I can only describe the behavior exhibited by the ornate as predatory and opportunist, am i just overthinking this?

Any opinions would be a great help thanks.

I think it's just territorial aggression. He'll probably do it to the others once closer to their size. The only solution is to either rehome or get more polys.

+1 at what moe214 moe214 said. Just keep an eye on it, but with my expirence with ornate they can be aggressive to a smaller polys, and since the growth rate on ornate is much faster than any other upper jaws ive seen, you might wanna be carefull and watch its behavior.

Growth is a case to case thing with bichirs imo, my ornate is still under 10" and I've had her over a year and half.

I've had mine since February of 2015, got it at 7-8" it's now 9-10". I've read of similar experiences as mine and have read of ones with better growth than yours. Idk what causes it. Mine is a shy fish and very picky eater so this can attribute to it some. But for whatever reason, I've never had luck with predicting bichirs growth

I totally agree with moe and polyaddict I have a 17 inch female Ornate snaps only if you are near her spot only tolerates the purple wolf who flares at her sometimes lol.

Ornate are nipper. They only pick on bichir similiar size or smaller. After adding two more bichirs it tone down the aggressions.
