I have a 56 column and already have a 8-10 inch dragon eel (aka violet goby- Gobioides broussonetti )

Obviously the Dragon is entirely passive and I don't want him messed up. Would a Ornate or Delhezi mess with him in your experience? I will just put off plans otherwise.

Dragon eels aka aka violet goby- Gobioides broussonetti really require brackish water to thrive.Polypterids are freshwater fish and don't tolerate brackish well.Anne

but you've got to love violet gobies, they're like meaner versions of bichirs w/ striking teeth, better coloration than an ornate and more defined dorsal finlets, hehe if they weren't brackish, i'll try and get one for myself. if nipped they will bite back. =)
any pics?

I agree with beblondie....not a good mix of fish. Besides the fact of the differing water requirements, Dragon Gobies are actually quite wimpy and prone to all sorts of maladies if kept in straight fresh water. If there was any size disparity at all between the bichir and the goby then I'm afraid the bichir would simply see the goby as a nice, elongated snack.

Thanks guys. I know that Dragons are supposed to like brackish but mine came acclimated to fresh and has thrived, eats tons and has grown a couple inches in the last six months....so, if it ain't broke. I have plans for a brackish tank but have not done it yet.
That said, my worry was similar body shape and whether the bichir would just bully the woose.
Guess I will just have to catch the next bigger tank that we get in on sale (work in PS/LFS) and get a brackish tank going.

:screwy: i really disagree. they are the most peaceful fish ive yet to see. and better coloration than an ornate?????? dragon gobies are a pale grey blue and ornates have crazy yellow stripes and purple hues. bichirs also have some serious teeth, you just rarely see them. i think you mean a different fish or somthing.

im pretty sure its the right fish. but don't get me wrong, im a bichir kinda guy, just merely suggesting if they were 'bichirs and not eels' (since they both are snake like but w/ diff. head shapes, appearance-wise, i know they are very different specimens), i would definitely favor the gobies coloration, i've gotten so used to the pattern and coloration of an ornate, i wouldn't mind seeing a pale grey blue bichir. :)
yup and i agree w/ bichirs having teeth since i've notice them when my endli endli yawns and there's a good pic on another forum, but the gobies' are more prominent.
you're right they are peaceful fish despite of their mean appearance, though i was just thinking if provoked they can use them, i think. :)

I cant see the pick but its prob right. i respect your opinions but i disagree. i guess its just a matter of persomal preference.

There is no purple and yellow bichir, there is a brown bichir with a dappled yellow pattern
tho to be fussy all members of the poly[terid family are illegal in Hawaii-Anne
