Ive been hearing and reading some stuff about bladder problem on polys, i had one senegal and ornate that died from it and i didnt know it was a bladder problem.
My question is how to prevent this kind of stuff and if the poly already have it how to cure it.
I change my water twice a week and when my ornate had the bladder problem, i tried to threat it with epsom salt and clean water, do they have any meds for this?

You can try Epsom salts and clean water. Help to clear out any obstruction which causes this.

The other is to give a med that covers gram negative rods. Most often causing this. Broad spectrum antibiotics are used.

The way to avoid is by reducing frequent daily feedings. Meaning once the fish's growth has started to stall then can just cut back feeding. Just something I've done for all my fish and never had issues. Also Avoid live feeders.

I think overeating is an issue in many cases. I say overeating not overfeeding because some polys can just go and go and gorge themselves to being sick and others just stop eating when they are 'full'. My WC ansorgii loves Massivore but gets to a point where its done and stops eating. My CB teugelsi gorges on everything to the point that once I saw it throw up a bunch of krill just so that it could eat again. It is a challenge to make sure that all the fish get enough food but then the piggies not get too much. I think if you can feed smaller amounts and spread out the feedings would be a good preventive measure.

I only feed every other day and i do spread the food from left to right. But its true that i cant stop the polys that eat to much, which ive seen mostly from CB ones, the WC polys seems to have control on their eating when full they stop and sometimes it will take them four days to eat again.

What kind of meds are this? Do i need to QT the bichir before putting the meds? Sorry im not really good with med names or what they really supposed to do.:(

Don't worry about it. The meds aren't the issue. It's trying to figure what's really causing the problem. Identifying the cause is the big problem. Most of the time the other memebers can ID w/o any issue. It's hard for me always. I just try to help but i tip my hat to the next guy who corrects my bad decisions and saves the fish.

Add salt.

But meds like maracyn, maracyn 2, Duran, kanamycin, neomycin, steptomycin, etc.

But I always gotta go online to get the others. It takes days. I just keep a little on hand which I know is carried by my lfs. In case I need more.

All sick/new fish should be qt'd. New fish don't have to and there are measures by other members to thwart that. Risk is there.

Add almost any antibiotic to your main tank and ur beneficial bacteria does. Then you'll be doing water changes daily depending on ur stock and when ur BB come back.

This is something Ive noticed too. Of all my polys that I consider 'overeaters', they were all cb. My wc were heavy eaters at the beginning when young but as they grew they knew when to stop.
