Everybody keeps saying to be careful because plecos are notorious for removing slime coating off of polys. Would this include ropefish? If not why?
Reason I ask is someone scraped up my ornates head but my rope which has been in longer doesn't have a mark on him.

If you keep plecos make sure you leave a slice of zuchinni or cucumber for the plecos everynight. Plecos do most of their eating at night so be sure they have plenty of food when the tank lights goes out.

Yep slimecoat is slimecoat once a pleco gets the taste for it they ususally do not quit

Thank you.

I have a Green Phantom Pleco and a Vampire Pleco with an Albino Senegal and all is good so far. They've been together for a few months now.

Its not chiseled in stone that it will happen its something to be aware of and to watch for and seperate them if it happens-Anne

I guess my question was not worded properly. What I really wanted to know was why polys over other types of fish and why if they were leaving the rope alone why the ornate would be in more danger. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for all the help.

well they don't just like polys, eels, lungfish and catfish are on the menu to my rubber lip pleco use to try to suck on my pictus cats but i moved them to a new tank other fish useully don't stick around to be sucked on but bottem dwellers tend to move slower and have a harder time getting away

and mabye since the ornate is much bigger around then the rope its got more slime and must be a better target but watch both of them
