have nat geo or any other animal station ever done a show on polys? Not that i have ever seen

ive never seen anything at all about polys on TV and im wonder'n y not .Contrary to popular belief in this forum bichirs/Polypterids are not that popular. And their native habitat is not real camera friendly-Anne

Haven't seen any polypterus on any documentary shows, but there is a Polypterus breeding video in Japanese. Also a couple of other Japanese vids available that show Polys in aquarium tanks.

(you can see a couple of endlis & congicus on the bottom, in these snapshots from one of the videos)

there is a bichir bichir featured in bbc's: congo; river that swallows all rivers. i got it from a torrent site few months ago... there is a nicve lungfish section too!

Hello,

curious: I do know about this BBC documentary (i have to say - i own just every of their documentarie on DVD ... i don't know any better ones!) but hadn't seen it anywhere!
The Kongo region is a "white spot" - also for TV. The only documentary i'd seen about this region was a documentary about the great-great-great-grandson of Alexander Humboldt, working about epidemology - searching for the sources of the most dangerous infections the mankind is knowing up to date.
Needless to say that this project is self-financed ...

I learned one thing through this documentary: The central african region is just a forgotten region! When a town (with just over 1000 citizens!) dies out in a week caused by a haemorragic fever no-one will know about - not in Europe, not in the US and not in Asia ...

Greetings
Uwe

i think the most you'll see is some quick (like 20 seconds or less) footage of a bichir swimming past etc. i think i've seen one like that. i honestly don't think there's any documentary out there with any emphasis or extended coverage or footage on bichirs, for the reason that Anne said.

ermgravy: you sure that's not a congicus, since it's in congo?

thank u all 4 ur input i guess i'll b wait'n around 2 c them on TV 4 nothin well at least i can c nice 1s on here or my tank anytime i want

footage looks to be in one of the great lakes i think... lots of open water, clear deep blue water, large round rocks and bichir the size of my forearm.... swear its bichir bichir, but may be wrong.... the seen lasts a mn or two, few explanatory facts about bichir's in general... nout new but still one for the collection and as jess said it is very nice to see thwem in the wild for a change....
