polys with fire eel

Yes it can be done as long a the fire eel is not small.

My 7" polypterus just bit of my 9"fire eels head. 9" is an approximation though sinde he now is headless and about 8½" long...

They work fine for me.

My senegal and zig zag eel are fine together, pretty much ignore each other. The zig zag has grown faster, but he's less aggressive anyway.
