Thinking about my pond I will be building. I was thinking about ringshank framing nails. Would that work like screws? I habe an air nailer and those would be exponentially faster.

I wouldn’t use them personally. The cost of screws is not so high that I’d compromise strength. Screws will be much more secure than a nail all day long. I love my framing and trim guns, but not for that job.

And trust me, I’m cheap. But this is just my opinion.

I’d go with screws also. When I took down my pond, so secure, it was easier to keep up the lumber. No glue needed but would make it even stronger.

+1 for using screws.

+1 with all the above.

Unless my money and time is at a premium, I have found that screws have always worked out better for me. I have furniture my dad put together over 40 years ago that is still tightly constructed because he built it properly with screws. No way it's still here if he used nails.

good quality or structural screws defo. Ring shanks work very well but only one chance to put them in. Screws are stronger and can be removed if things change. Cheap screws are a bad idea I have had them snap going in.
