Iv been looking at these and have been thinking of getting one or two and giving them a shot they don’t seem to be any different than the canister filters you get at your lfs and they seem to me like they would be allot better than them as well. Has any one tried these or is any one using them and what do you think of them?

Some of them require external pumps, but if you have the space I'm sure they will work great. My gut tells me they may be a bit louder than a canister made for indoors, but I dont know that for sure. I think media is also kinda limited, depending on which brand/model you get. Some of them are bead filters, some have foam discs, etc. Go shopping & see what you come up with...

Be absolutely sure to get a "pressurized pond filter" and NOT a "gravity fed pond filter"...

If you search this forum for "Bio Force 2000" you will find several threads where I have described my experience using them at length including tips I've learned to make them more practical...

In short, I used one indooras for over 5 years on both a 300 gal Rummbermaid and a typical 125 Gal aquarium. They do come with some additional concerns, but if they are addressed wisely, they work excellently for indoor filters.

They are no louder than an indoor canister. The only sound they make is the sound of the pump humming, thus they are as silent as the pump you choose...

My only experience is with the Bio Force, but from my understanding other brand "Presurized Pond Pumps" should work just as well.

The Bio Force has stock foam disks as well as room for about 1.5~2 gallons of bioballs or other bio media. For finer filtration fwelt fabric can be placed between the foam disks, filter fabric can be placed in the bottom after the sponges. It doesn't use "baskets" but if your a little on the creative side you can use just about any media.

All in all, with the BioForce 2000 you get just over twice the flow rate and almost twice the media capacity as an FX5 for around the same pricetag.
