I was wondering if anyone had tried pond filters for their fish tanks. I was looking at the fish mate pressurized uv/bio filter or the fish mate pressurized bio filter.

I can get them with a higher flow rate than an fx6 and they cost less. Anyone tried this?

Thanks in advance.

I have used a small Pondmaster filter on my feeder minnow tank mainly because it was not being used at the time and it saved me from having to purchase one for that tank.

I have used them numerous times. Just keep in mind that the internal pump required to run a large filter is going to be extremely loud.

Pipes could be run outside making the tank completely silent, couldn't they?

You can get quite/power efficient pumps. (They aren't cheap.) In general I wouldn't suggest ones with less than 300 gallons since they tend to take ~150 gallons for a good backwash.

But in general I found 1 reeflo dart is queter than an aqua clear 110+ Fx5. But you will spend much more and setup will take much more time. (Course you can set up water changes to be supper easy/you can add whatever else you want to the filtration system assuming you have space.)

Also as said piping them into another room works wonders. You can see what I did in my fishroom below. (360 gallons per filter.)
