ive been looking for a more powerful filter for my tank to really get some movement going.
if found this pond filter http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HOZELOCK-ECOC...39938QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
and was thinking of hooking this pump up to it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3000-LTR-INLI...39925QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262 or its bigger brother http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/5000-LTR-INLI...39927QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

would this work in a tank rather than the ponds that it is sold for?

Well my dad has two running inline on his pond and personally the results are crap IMO but for a tank it could work as a canister as it is basically one

i know the results arent amazing on ponds but I figure that from the amount of turnover this is gonna provide in a tank then a little lack of efficiency isnt gonna be a problem. the pump im planning on using is a 5000l/h or 7500l/h, far more than the canister is rated for to take into account lift and the media in the canister.
more powerful pumps can be strapped to these with no fuss and if i need more or a larger canister then they are extremely cheap.

anymore views/experiences?

Let me know how you get on, pond stuff is great as an alternative, I use fresh start on my tanks, one bottle lasts a year or more, for £15 it's far cheaper than the tropical option, by far

it is possible to siphon water to the filter an run a pump from the exit to the tank you will need a ball valve at the inlet to stop the siphon when you service the filter you might want to get a larger ball valve to keep the restriction to a minimum most of these parts are PVC an FX5 might be a better buy

I've used a BioForce 2000 pond filter on tanks before and was very happy with the results...
