not where I'm supposed to be
I'll get pics to show but I have 2 250g preformed ponds that I would like to combine with a 7-8" pvc and also make a filter out of an outdoor container to output to a waterfall that goes into both ponds.

So the questions would be, what do you put in the filter box (its about 6ft L x 1 1/2ft H&W)? I was thinking of an egg crate and strap a Pura pad to it with maybe some bio-balls.

what's a good sealant to put on the pvc between them and the plumbing on the box?

Not knowing what 'container' make it a W/D http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=409462#post409462 scroll up to top) with poly-fil http://www.fabricdepot.com/Product.aspx?ItemKey=12174 for the filter and scrubbies http://www.wernersponds.com/scrubbies.jpg for the bio-mass. Cheapest, bestest you can get for the money.

Keep us posted.

Here is the box we intend on making a filter out of... forgot to take actual dimensions but what said before should be correct.

Just a thought, why not keep the ponds separate and just plumb them both to the filter. If you connect them with an 8" pipe you will find that in the morning the fish will be in one pond and in the evening, they will be in the other. Also you can put more varieties of fish in the two ponds.

To seal the pvc to the pond liner, you want silicone (as already mentioned). For the plumbing, you must use PVC GLUE.

Lastly, your filter box may need beefing up. Fill it with water to see if it deforms or bows. At six feet, the probability is that it will not hold up to that kind of pressure. If it deforms, build a frame for it with 2x4's banding the top rim and half way down. The 2x4's will be stronger if they are perpendicular to the surface of the box.

The point is to make one pond for fish to swim between. Another thought I had is to cut a 1'-1 1/2' section out of ea and place a liner to extend it. The box would be about 3/4 into the ground.

We dont plan on haveing the usual goldfish/koi pond. Im an experimental person so we are trying to see what we can put in there for almost a full year since the ponds are barely 2ft deep. We've already found out Bichirs and African Tiger Pikes arent good as they tend to jump. lol

Empirical fishkeeping is not the sign of a good fishkeeper. Leave the experimentting to the Universities. If you want to know what jumps out and what doesn't just ask. It's alot cheaper too :D . I've even seen catfish jump out of ponds if water conditions are bad enough, they get spooked or thought they could get something at the edge that was edible.

Alot of people here have to use netting over their ponds to keep out tresspassers anyway.

Try to find a good commercial plumber or plumbing supply and get a 10-12 inch diameter piece of abs or pvc pipe to connect the 2 ponds, that way you will keep some integrity of the pond walls and not have them collapse.

you know something an old man told me the other day... "after 40+ yrs of fish keeping, 1 thing seems true, everyone's an expert" and "what works for me might not work for you".

thanks for info, I was thinking of the 1ft pvc also. You dont think a retaining wall would help it I cut the section out?

Hopefully we get things going before it gets too cold.
